In 2018, a collective of students and faculty in Western Washington University’s Department of Art & Art History petitioned against the planned closure of the Viking Union Gallery, the only professional student-run gallery on campus. Over a thousand petition signatures later, they succeeded.

It was less than five years ago that Western Washington University had an active chapter of the Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA), which boasts over 92,000 in chapters throughout all 50 states, according to the Democratic Socialists of America website. At the beginning of 2021 though, the campus chapter abruptly ceased activity.

Western Washington University men’s basketball junior guard Tijan Saine made his long-awaited transfer decision after entering the transfer portal in March. After meeting and talking with many schools that recruited him, Saine chose to attend NCAA Division I Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, this fall.

The Vikings celebrated a successful GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship on May 10-11 at Civic Stadium in Bellingham. This weekend’s GNAC sweep marked the 14th consecutive track & field and cross country team titles.
